Baptism is one of two Sacraments in the Lutheran Church, the other being Communion. Usually, parents bring an infant for baptism, making promises that will later be affirmed by that child at Confirmation. However, anyone can be baptized-infant, child or adult.
Here’s how it works: You and your child’s sponsor(s) will bring your child to the font during or immediately following a worship service. You and the sponsors will promise to raise your child in the Christian faith and the Christian community. The minister will pour water over your child three times, make the sign of the cross with oil on the child’s forehead, and give you a baptism candle.
God invites you to receive a beautiful gift-God’s blessing of your child through baptism.
